I estimate that at the time I was at Von Steuben (1941 - 1945) the population was 95% Jewish. At one time my family joined a Consrvative congregation that did not yet have a building. We attended High Holiday services in the auditorium of Von Steuben. AS I sat in the balcony, I realized that if I walked out the door a few feet to my right, I would be in the school's halls. Empty halls and classrooms. No significant teaching was goin on, as there were practically no students present.
